Caryn Petty is the Statewide Academy Coordinator representing the CAL FIRE/Office of the State Fire Marshal, State Fire Training (SFT) Division. Chief Petty serves in the rank of Deputy State Fire Marshal III (Specialist).
She began her fire service career with CAL FIRE in the San Diego (MVU) and Riverside (RRU) Units, with her last operational assignment in RRU. She began her work with OSFM in 2017. She now serves as a national representative for SFT and resides on several statewide training advisory committees.

Beginning as a teenage Fire Explorer and EMT, she later became a Paramedic, having developed a sincere dedication for unwavering patient care. She has attended several fire academies throughout California and is certified in many fire service-related specialties. She also pursued higher education, earning her Associate of Science in Fire Science Technology from Southwestern College in San Diego, Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration from California State University-Los Angeles, and her Master of Arts in Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Arizona State University. Caryn remains a motivated and steadfast advocate for the continuation of standardized, safe, and excellent fire service training and education.
